What to Expect During Your Prenatal Massage

At Flow Therapeutic Massage, your comfort and safety are our top priority. Here's what you can expect during your prenatal massage experience:

1. A Calm, Supportive Environment

You’ll be welcomed into a quiet, peaceful space where you can breathe deeply, ask questions, and feel fully cared for.

If you're receiving an in-home massage, we bring everything needed to create a calming setup — including supportive pillows, fresh linens, and gentle music if desired.

2. Thoughtful Intake & Pregnancy-Specific Safety

Before every session, we’ll take time to review your health history and current pregnancy experience. You’ll be asked a few brief questions about how this pregnancy is going and, if applicable, any history with prior pregnancies.

While prenatal massage is safe for most people, there are rare conditions where it is not advised. That’s why, at the beginning of every appointment, we carefully consider any known pregnancy-related conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of both you and your baby.

3. A Space to Feel Heard

You’ll be supported in a side-lying or semi-reclined position using bolsters and pillows to cradle your body and relieve pressure on your hips, belly, and lower back. We do not use any face-down positioning for pregnant clients regardless of trimester.

4. Comfortable Positioning for Pregnancy

Your prenatal massage will use soothing, rhythmic techniques with light to moderate pressure — designed to:

  • Relieve lower back, hip, and pelvic tension

  • Reduce swelling in hands, feet, and legs

  • Improve circulation

  • Calm the nervous system

  • Support better sleep and emotional balance

Each session is fully customized to how you’re feeling that day.

5. Gentle, Therapeutic Techniques

Before we begin, we’ll check in about any current discomforts, areas of focus, or emotional stress you’d like support with. You are encouraged to speak up at any time — your voice, your body, and your comfort are always respected.

6. Flexible Session Lengths & In-Home Options

Choose from 60- or 90-minute sessions, depending on your needs and availability.

In-home prenatal massage is available if you prefer not to travel — we’ll bring the entire setup to you, so you can relax in your own space.

7. Your Comfort Comes First — Always

Your comfort is considered throughout the entire session — even if that means pausing to sit up if you’re feeling nauseous, or taking a bathroom break. There’s never a need to rush or “power through” anything.

We also build in time at the end of your session so you can transition slowly and hold onto that post-massage calm. Before you leave, you’ll receive gentle suggestions for staying more comfortable in your changing body — even between sessions.
